Hi everyone, Today I had to teach my second practice. I arrived early as always, and when I got in the classroom with the teacher I kind of tired and wanted to sleep. I don't know if that was trasmitted to the students, but I felt them different than the first time. I started the class with warm up activity. Since they were students the time, I gave each a paper in a shape of a circle. I asked them to draw a clock and set any time. They spent more time than I thought because some of them were working on the homework for that day, others were very tired , very sick, so I tried to hide my fatigue, but I don't know if I could. After they finished the clock, I gave them a piece of making tape and asked the to paste it on their chest, and go around the classroom asking, "what time is it?." They had a practice on the time and I think that worked well. Later, I told them to past their clocks on the board and we repeated the time all together. Afterwards, I played the cd for them to listen to a conversation. I told them to listen, asked them for new words, ask some questions about the dialogue, repeat, and perfomed. I told them to pass to the from with the book and give their own names and another country. They had fun giving other countries because in the dialogue was requiring.
Besides the time, I had to give a review of present continuous wh-questions. I wrote some questions on the board and they helped me to write them, so I could realized that they already had familiarized with the topic. I asked them for some verbs to write the " ing" form. Some of them seemed to understand everything, but the other half didn't participate unless I asked them to. I gave them a picture and I told them to write a questions and the answer using present perfect. Then they had to ask one of their friends the question and their classmates had to say the answer. for example: what is he doing? He is crying. I think this activity worked well spite the feelings most of them had today. In general, I didn't like too much this class because I felt it was passive class, but there could be many things that affected the class like the fatigue, sickness, but I will try to be more active next time.
That has happened to me before; there are occasions in which the classes don't have the mood. We have to learn hw to deal with those situations; it is difficult sometimes because we have problems or we feel tired, but we have to enter the classroom with a smile on our faces.
ResponderEliminarGood warm-up Mary, I liked it. I think I am going to use it on the children´s program.
ResponderEliminarBy the way, you need to be more careful next time so you don´t affect the motivation of your students with your feelings. Remember that when we enter to the classroom, we need to become actors. Try to be more enthusiastic next time, and you will see the differences.
Keep working!!!
Yeah! I like your warm up! I think it can be also used as the grammar introduction! Talking about your feelings... for sure they are transmited to the students although it is kind of difficult for us to avoid it specially in these days we have to do many things! I hope next time we can read a different version about your practice :D
